hi there,

My name is Aboubacar Barrie, but I am more commonly known as “Mr. Forenaire”. I am a Business and Engineering Student at the one and only: The Georgia Institute of Technology!

I am an individual that values hard work, quality family time, and giving back to others. In high school, I had to balance 3 personalities. I was a full time student, an entrepreneur on the side, and a curious person who had a deep interest in studying my deen of Al-Islam.

I was fortunate enough to graduate high school with hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships. I have not had to pay out of pocket for college costs yet. In high school, I started a fashion brand that's currently valued at $250,000. I like to keep myself busy on campus, joining different organizations and being involved with different activities.

scholarships

This is the Georgia Hope Scholarship that is awarded to Georgia College students for about 4 years who maintain a GPA of 3.0 each year. The HOPE scholarship normally covers 80% of your tuition (given certain criteria) , but as of 2023, there are some reports that this may soon cover full tuition.

I found this opportunity on Scholarship America. I applied when I graduated high school and got it on May 2020 I believe. Funny story: This was for students intending to major in Engineering or anything "STEM" related.... shhh... keep this between me and you (if you know what I mean), lol.

This is the Koch engineering scholarship. I found this through my Engineering minor. Shoutout to the #Denning Technology and Management (T&M) program.

This is the Achieve Atlanta Scholarship, which awards $20,000 over 4 years students graduating from an Atlanta high school and attends a Georgia University (under certain criteria). This organization has a special place in my heart, as they periodically check in with me to ensure my grades and mental health are okay. They also provided me with an on-campus job opportunity through their "Achieve Atlanta Ambassador" Program.

This was a top national scholarship offered by Gucci North America in the amount of $20,000. This scholarship was designed for students interested in the fashion industry and is a positive force within society.

campus involvements

Black Student Recruitment Team

I help the diversity team within Georgia Tech Admissions in the recruiting of Black students to campus.

Muslim Student Association

One of my favorite orgs on campus, the MSA is a nice community and my second home. I pray with the Muslim brothers in our prayer room, I attend short Islamic lectures (halaqahs), I go to Jummah (weekly Friday prayers) with the bros, and I enjoy observing Ramadan with them. This org makes me feel represented!

Office of Minority Education Development

OMED is like my 3rd home, designed for students like "Us" if you know what I mean. Lots of great resources and positivity in that office. I also work with them as an "Ambassador" to the Achieve Atlanta program, where I help GT Achieve students get familiar with campus resources and help connect them to academic and professional opportunities.

Scheller Business Ambassador

As a Scheller Business Ambassador (SBA), we basically represent the Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business. It's like a team of 30-40 of us each year. We give tours to prospective students, and hold engaging meeting once a week, discussing our plans to fostering a positive culture in our building. Similar to my Achieve Atlanta Ambassador job, we also help the undergraduate student body by connecting them to various opportunities our college has to offer.

Tutoring & Academic Services

My second on campus job is with T.A.S. I started off as a "Learning Assistant" (think of it like a mini tutor) helping in Math Pre-calculus. This program was started in our campus by one of my fav professors: Professor Reikes. After just one semester, I got promoted to being an "LA Mentor." I no longer assist students in the classroom. Now, I help other Learning Assistants perform their day to day duties better and more efficiently.

company work

Forenaire is a fashion company I started as a Freshman in high school, and by the mercy of Allah, we have been able to expand it tremendously over the years. We produce high-end attire for young adults with a focus on professionalism.

Berry and Vilv is the #1 College Podcast in the world right now. I started it in October of 2022 with my roommate, Dinyar Islam. He is an international student from Bangladesh and because we come from different backgrounds, yet are similar in so many ways, we decided to create this show to share our perspectives on college. We cover everything ranging from admissions, financial aid, campus life, internships, vacation activities, etc.

fahnoon is a sportswear company I created in 2020 that focus on providing quality, modest athletic clothing for muslim athletes. The brand has quickly grown to be liked by many (some who do not even identify as Muslim) and we are currently working on establishing strategic partnerships locally and globally. Georgia Tech is definitely on our list. Stay tuned. Website coming soon.
